Falls Short Of "Tombstone"; But Still Is Solid...

Enjoyable western with lots of high points, and a good score. The acting is quite solid, and the cinematography is well done. A little drawn out at times. Especially the ending. Could have been at least a half hour shorter. However... Full review
Doesn't hold a candle to Tombstone

The made-for-TV, contrived version of Tombstone. What with all the Hollywood-style soap opera encased in this, and Kevin Costner's slack-jaw acting, this movie is entertaining in a bubble-gum kinda way, but doesn't hold any water. A prime example is when Earp's... Full review

This is a worthy addition to the "Western" and superior to the overlong "Buffaloworld", er, I'm sorry "Dances with Wolves". The supporting cast is excellent imcluding the underused Michael Madsen. Well done was the passage of time aspect, the change in... Full review
No comparison to Tombstone

in my opinion, this movie is beyond comparison to Tombstone, a Hollywood-glamorized production that we actually saw before this. This was much more historically accurate and portrayed Wyatt Earp as a man with 2 main influences which he always lived up... Full review

If y'all remember, in 1994 there were two Wyatt Earp movies to come out, there was Tombstone and then there was this one. While Tombstone was better, this one is still worth checking out, it's one of those movies that leave... Full review

However, as much as I love Wyatt Earp, it's not one of... Epic movies have to have the characters attach themselves to the audience. Lawrence Kasdan attempts to make the great epic western, but he's just not suited for it. ... Full Review

the debate may never die as to which film is the better picture.....I liked "Wyatt Earp," but I found it hard to sit through the entire film.....Dennis Quaid was simply awesome as Doc Holliday.....Kevin Costner is perfectly fine as Wyatt Earp and I feel he earned a Razzy because he is Kevin Costner..... ... His Wyatt Earp could just as well be Lt. Dunbar from "Dances With Wolves" or Frank Farmer from "The Bodyguard" or Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, for that matter.....As the older, more unfeeling lawman, he is the usual staid, tight-lipped Costner who seems just a little too full of his own importance.....As Doc Holliday, Dennis Quaid puts in a good performance, lighting up the screen with his presence whenever he's around, which, unfortunately, is not nearly enough.....Fortunately, most of the acting is quit ... Wyatt Earp is a handsomely crafted epic that actually plays better in the comfort of your own home than it did in the theater. There is actually much to recommend about Wyatt Earp and it is in many ways a "better" film than Tombstone but it failed at what its competitor did best: entertaining people. ... Full Review

But as Earp, his woodenness works well -- often to hilarious effect. Starting with Earp's tenderfoot years, Kasdan and co-writer Dan Gordon try to show everything the eponymous hero (and sometime antihero) went through. ... Full Review

One's fast; the other creeps. One skates along the surface of events; the other plumbs legend for meaning. One explodes; the other implodes. Speed (1994, FoxVideo, R, $19.98) and Wyatt Earp (1994, Warner, PG-13, priced for rental) have absolutely nothing... ... Full Article
