It's not surprising that the incomparable Maggie Smith won an Emmy for her role in the film, while director Richard Loncraine (Wimbledon) and Chris Cooper in the best supporting actor category were among the nominations.
You can almost feel the warm Italian sunshine and can delight in the gentle breeze that kisses the wild red poppies that dance freely in the field.

While Wimbledon does not go outside the box of the genre it does an acceptable job at entertaining us even while following conventions.
Peter Colt ( Paul Bettany ) is a washed up English tennis player who receives a wild card invitation to play in Wimbledon , the worlds most famous tennis competition.

there's never been a decent movie about tennis
Wimbledon is a Working Title Films production and a feeble successor to its Hugh Grant films, Four Weddings, Notting Hill, Bridget Jones and Love Actually, from which the American screenwriters cull most of their scenes and situations.

Sadly, Bettanys pairing with Kirsten Dunst just doesnt work.
The film double-faults every time it tries to focus on their relationship which, unfortunately, is about 70 percent of the time, including a huge snooze-worthy chunk at the end of the second act.
