As always Lynch relies on wonderfully talented cast members to breathe life into his family of eccentric characters, and this is where Wild at Heart is blessed, because the performances from all involved are top notch.
Cage brings his trademark "unsettled" quality to Sailor which plays beautifully against Dern and her sweet-natured, yet troubled Lula.

But Wild At Heart and Peaks complement each other nicely, even if the early episodes of the TV show point to some of the shortcomings of the film and the shortcomings of the film anticipate the failings of the series' later stretches.
David Lynch never enjoyed a higher profile than in 1990.

Wild At Heart (Special Edition) - DVD Review
Best, though, is the sequence where Lynch explains the craft of film transfer, showing an unreserved love for DVD that will surely - soon - lead to his first yak-track.

And bold so as to ignite visceral responses: my own first experience with Wild at Heart was at the 1990 Cannes Film Festival, when it inspired a loud mix of cheers and a few walk-outs at its premiere screening.

I cant recommend Wild at Heart although I can look at it and see it has an audience out there somewhere, Im just not in it.
The film brags the likes of Nicolas Cage, Laura Dern, and Willem Dafoe, yet everyone I talked to had never seen the film a lot of them had never even heard of it.

Wild at Heart" is rated R for considerable violence, gore, sex, nudity, profanity and vulgarity.
There's no question that Lynch is an innovative director and "Wild at Heart" is brimming with intriguing symbolism (watch out for those matches!

Dern, meanwhile, settles for squirming sexpot, and noticeable support comes from Willem Dafoe, his yellow-toothed villain losing his head in spectacular style.
Jumping parole after a brutal killing, wildcard Sailor (Nicolas Cage) takes his lover Lula (Laura Dern) on the run from her loony mother (Diane Ladd), who sends a series of grotesque hitmen after them.

Cage and Dern deliver phenomenal performances --....Some may be bothered by Lynch's fantastical ending.....Though lacking the organic clarity of Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart is a breathtaking display of movie magic....they're the hottest, oddest movie couple in years.....Lynch's kinky fairy tale is a triumph of startling images and comic invention..... ...
