Do not get the wrong expectations when you go to see this movie. Too many people are smashing it because it was not what they expected or wanted. See the 1953 original. First thing said. It pays homage to it by... Full review

Imagine going to the movies and taking a combination of Independence Day and Jurassik Park. That is what Steven Spielberg accomplished with this masterpiece!! Tom Cruise portrays Ray Ferrier, just a typical father going to watch his kids for the weekend.... Full review

Some movies just won't have the same effect at home as they do on the big screen with great sound. This is one of them. Whatever you might think of Cruise, etc., Spielberg can direct his ass off and make a... Full review

What a shame. Spielberg takes a good story and slaughters it. Poor direction and bad writing really send this one up on the *Stink-O-Meter... Full review

DO NOT WATCH THIS FILM. IT SUPPORTS SCIENTOLOGY! IT CLEARLY DISPLAYS IT ON THE POSTER OF THE MOVIE IN FINE PRINT AT THE VERY BOTTOM. IT READS SOMETHING LIKE THIS, "30% of the proceeds of this fine film will further fund... Full review

I wanted to love this movie. The first hour or so is awsome, until we meet Tim Robbins in his basement. Tim Robbins is a good actor, and even Tom Cruise did a good job. The movie then turns really ugly,... Full review

Cruise is actually very good at what he does.....Not every one of Cruise's moments in War of the Worlds is top drawer, admittedly, with the actor faltering during the film's quieter, more introspective moments.....along with Cruise's masterful playing of the scene --....In two very different movies, playing two very different men, Cruise found a perfect director in Spielberg.....Interestingly, his best performances aren't necessarily in the movies that have the most arthouse cachet..... ... The truth is, flaws aside, "War of the Worlds" is a fantastically entertaining picture of mass destruction, made from one of the best in the biz.....The first glimpse we get of the Tri-Pod is one of the most effective and tensest cinematic scenes in recent years.....This happy family includes Dakota Fanning, who does child actors proud as the precocious Rachel, and Justin Chatwin as the rebellious Robbie..... ... Watching the new super-hyped, big budget Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise sci-fi spectacular, War of the Worlds, I felt strangely detached and uninvolved. Review by Andrew L. Urban: Meticulously set up with the human relationships to the fore, War Of The Worlds begins with a solid half hour or so in which Ray (Tom Cruise) is shown - rather heavy handedly - to be a hapless father with little connection to his children. ...
