The best moments are those that are grounded in reality, like that scene late at night in a snow storm, when Billy Crudup's Tobey discovers his car has been towed away.
There are some funny lines, novel situations and for the most part, the film is amusing

it realistically explores the search for meaning in life, and deals effectively with the issue of the lack of communication and infidelity inherent in relationships.....Freundlich’s film is witty and enjoyable, and the top flight actors give great performances..... ... Full Review

So, if you're searching for a movie that will satisfy the lady's desire for a funny romantic comedy....Sadly, this female role seems to be overly commitment-minded as a means to counterbalance the equally overdone antics of Billy Crudup.....Tragic, but ah well, still a good flick.....Julianne Moore is as splendid as always....Maggie Gyllenhaal gives another good performance despite the fact.... ... Trust the Man" is an Untrustworthy Movie....It by no means could be called a great movie, or even a good movie....This isn't a bad movie.....The characters in this film, unfortunately, are just not very likeable.....it certainly isn't a bad one..... ... Full Review

Trust the Man is an enigma: as a comedy it is too dramatic and as a drama it is too comical (note I didn't use the word funny).
That Mr. Freundlich wrote it also makes it even more damnable.

Trust the Man is definitely enjoyable: as one of the guiltiest of pleasures that you only watch at home during the cold, dark winter, with the curtains drawn, alone and in shame with a whole bag of potato chips.
The cinematic carnage that follows in Trust the Man is much like a classic disaster flick; a cataclysmic cyclone of romantic comedy formulas.

Overall, it is a decent movie that some will enjoy, but most won't care for.
When I first started watching Trust the Man , I thought I was in for a great ride.
They have great chemistry together.
