This is the film's main flaw That's not to diminish the scale of Troy's technical achievements: in the 18 minute feature In The Thick of the Battle, we see very clearly what enormous efforts went into the filmed war, and how much everyone cared about getting it right as an indication of what it may have been like. ... Ultimately, there are still some obvious problems with Troy . Released theatrically in 2004, Troy now receives a 'director's cut' release on home video that runs considerably longer and features more blood and nudity than its theatrical cut but which otherwise doesn't differ too drastically from what played in theaters a few years ago. ... The whole film suffers from many such compressions. That being said, I know Troy has developed a bit of a following since its release, and just about any fan of the theatrical version will be able to appreciate the changes and added nuance of the director's cut. ... Full Review

While "Troy" represents dependable, structured filmmaking all around, the curiosity of Brad Pitt's performance as Achilles is where the holes start to poke through this durable fabric.
