I enjoyed this movie for the atmosphere of the Paris circus, as well as action scenes. I have noticed that none of the other viewers have commented on the subtext of the movie that is obvious to some gay viewers:... Full review
Technicolor circus film pulls out all the punches

If you're in the mood for a circus movie, this has to be the best one out there. It has a super abundance of circus atmosphere that is vividly photographed in beautiful Technicolor, and three great parts for Burt Lancaster,... Full review

There were not many films made about the circus, but this one tops them all by far. Much better than DeMille's melodramatic soap opera which won an Oscar for Demille by default.Getting back to Trapeze, this film combines a wonderful... Full review
Almost a great circus movie

Almost a great circus movie, (if such a thing could exist), "Trapeze" comes closer than most to capturing the tawdry excitement of the milieu. While most circus pictures are aimed at kids this is aimed, if not quite at adults,... Full review

Despite this being a circus film and I usually hate circus films, this one was pretty good. While it was far from perfect, the acting and writing were good. What I also liked was the seamless way the actors did... Full review

Actually I think Trapeze is a fairly decent depiction of a 1950s European flyer's act. And I understand that Mr. Lancaster was an acrobat whose career was ended due to injury prior to his becoming an actor. So this may... Full review

Trapeze" is the first movie I saw Burt Lancaster in. I was amazed by his "physical" performance (I learned afterwards that he used to work in a circus as an acrobat). The pretty Gina Lollobrigida plays the game of love... Full review
Curtis was young...Lancaster was in his prime.....The trapeze performances were stunning and despite the predictability of the story, Trapeze was a wonderful movie. Though a little "hokey" at times, and dated perhaps today, the warmth, sincerity, and circus-realism makes this... Full review

What can we say about the big guy? He did his own stunts and this little film with Tony "Yonder's m'fadda's castle" Curtis [né Schwartz] and the lovely Ms. Lollobrigida, along with vet character actor Tom Gomez, delivers. Lots of... Full review
Lancaster,Curtis and Lollobrigida as a trio of trapeze flyers.Young Curtis wants to learn the famous triple somersault from old vet Lancaster, who's crippled from a fatal fall.In comes Lollobrigida making trouble for the two flyers both on the ground and in... Full review

Lancaster performs most of his own stunts and he taught Curtis a few tricks, but of the handful of films Lancaster actually liked himself in, Trapeze isn't one of them. The aerial action, which seemed quite spectacular at the time, have since been eclipsed by Cirque de Soleil and CGI. ... Full Review

Prior to Kwai , Arnold had scored a diversity of genres in England, and Trapeze certainly demonstrates Arnold's ability to go beyond his recognizable sounds - notably dramatic cues that start of with slowly rising, pensive strings, cymbal crashes, and pairings of rumbling percussion and sharp brass couplets during tense action scenes. ...
