To me, that's what makes "Total Recall" such a satisfying film:....the way Verhoeven's wicked sense of humor dovetailed with Schwarzenegger's love of one-liners (Quaid to his wife after he kills her for her deception: "Consider this a divorce");....He can make a technically competent, extremely stylish, action set-piece laden "Total Recall" in his sleep.....He's also going to be hard-pressed to find as good a cast:.... ... The score for that movie is really clever and adds a lot to the feel of the film. Total Recall is a fun sci-fi movie, but unfortunately, even though I own and watch it once a year, it hasn't held up very well with time (it could use to be re-cut and re-scored). ... Full Review

The film successfully meshes action and (yes) violence with a great story and outstanding acting.....I like "Total Recall," too, perhaps not quite as much as Dean does....Without a doubt, this is Arnold's best picture and arguably Verhoeven's best American outing.....I love a little violence in my movies..... ... Besides that, the film is smart, clever....the action is relentless.....Despite the army of writers credited in the sidebar, the movie is very coherent and easily understandable....What you have here is one of Arnold Schwarzenegger's best films to date.....The presence of Arnold, though, gives the film a more action vibe, which might unintentionally make the film seem less intelligent than it actually is..... ... Total Recall is a head film for action freaks:....He's a great action director;....Instead of the story of a man poised between two identities, Total Recall turns into a fantastically overwrought version of a typical Arnold picture -....A reckless orgy of pop nihilism and state-of-the-art slasher carnage, the movie is relentless, like a postpunk version of an Indiana Jones cliff-hanger..... ... This culminates in a riveting scene, the film's best, in which a doctor (Roy Brocksmith) visits Quaid in his Martian hotel room and tells him that he is still dreaming, and still in fact at the Rekall offices. The first half of ''Total Recall'' (screenplay by Ronald Shusett, Dan O'Bannon and Gary Goldman from a story by Phillip K. Dick) is the film's introductory phase, which toys ingeniously with gimmicks like household holograms and robot-driven taxis as it outlines the interesting confusion inside Quaid ... Full Review

Mr. Schnitzelicious is back and bulgier than ever in Paul Verhoeven's splattery, plug-ugly thriller "Total Recall. Aside from a few terrific effects, "Total Recall" is not good science fiction. ... Full Review
