Tokyo!

Three short films with a common thread--Tokyo! explores the social impact of the giant megalopolis for which it is named. Directors Michel Gondry, Leos Carax, and Joon-ho bong combine forces, contributing stories that will transform your concept of civilization. Gondry's "Interior Design" centers on a young woman searching for her purpose in the cramped and fast-paced urbanity which envelops her. Carax's "Merde" explores our tolerance for the grotesque, as it follows the wake of a mysterious green villian and the disaster he leaves wherever he goes. Joon-ho's "Shaking Tokyo" depicts a hermit's relationship with his only outside human contact, a pizza delivery girl. Combined, these three distinct stories each present us with a unique fantasy, yet all echo a common theme.

This movie is very unique...more than any movie you can think of. To try and explain it doesn't do the film justice. It's an experience, and a refreshing look at the city of Tokyo from three points of view from 3 different filmmakers.

I just saw Toyko! this week and loved it. The three film a very different yet weave together well with themes on communication, or lack there of. It is astounding how in one of the most populated cities in the world... Full review

The problem with most short films is....Overall, the picture isn't striking, but it's solid.....it's the slowest part of the movie.....Akira's directing doesn't seem to be very good.... ... Full Review

suggest more alienation from Tokyo than affection for the great city.....Assisted by Lavant's utterly convincing creation of this insouciant mutant, Carax brilliantly undercuts the myth of the misunderstood beast here....The story's conclusion is so understated it barely registers on the Richter scale.... ...
