Terry Gilliam (at the advance screening I attended) told the assembled crowd that to "get" the movie, you needed to abandon you preconceptions and adult knowlege, and instead view the film through the eyes of a child. It's a tall order... Full review

I hated this movie. It was dark, dastardly, and just... Bleh! The parents were alcoholic and tatooed, the mom doesn't stop smoking, and dies of some sort of lung collapse, and their daughter, Jeliza-Rose, is much like their slave.... Full review
