it doesn't make for a satisfying film.....The problem with Mike Mills' film is that the disconnection is terminal;....It is possibly exciting for actors and the director....Lou Pucci is great as Justin Cobb, but hardly an engaging character.....The reliable Tilda Swinton gets too few moments to be engaging.... ... The road trip itself is visually engrossing, and Pucci and Deschanel exude pure charm of the sort that can float the flimsiest of boats -- like this one. Thumbsucker's" best attribute is its ability to analyze these types of drugs and the people taking them. Keanu Reeves adds some needed laughs as a sort of Buddha dentist offering advice on why people thumb-suck, but "Thumbsucker" is as basic as movies come. ... Full Review

The movie might sound like a depressing drama, but this is more of a quirky piece. Thumbsucker is a film that split me down the middle; I admired its ambition, but it didn't entirely succeed. s the conclusion to a more powerful film. ... Full Review

Film Blather
And I would nominate Thumbsucker as having the best final shot of the year to date. The cast renders the silly human, and the script is sad, and funny, and real without being real. ... Full Review

Thumbsucker" is an honest and funny look at the struggles of people who feel deeply flawed, both those in youth and middle age. Audrey hides from these realities through an obsession with a TV heartthrob, Matt Schraam (Benjamin Bratt), whose TV character seems to have all the neat answers, but his real drug addicted self reveals messier truths to both her and Justin. ...
