Great Cast - not too good scriptwriting

Most of the major actors here do their best with not much to work with. The plot is nonsensical and way over the top. The dialogue seemed to be written by an amateur even though Peter Bogdanovich actually wrote it.... Full review
Since the day I saw this film when it came out in 1981, it has been one of my top 3 favorites. The blurb I wrote for Amazon is below, and I'm just thrilled that it's finally coming out on... Full review

I watched it some years ago. I remembered it as very mysterious situations, and a mixture of melancholic things, like the fate of Dorothy and the personal future of Bogdanovich.I turn to watch on my VHS copy and then I... Full review

This film is worth watching. Screwball comedy stylings brought up-to-date... ie 80's New York.Perhaps this'll move some of you: it made Quentin Tarantino's list of his Top Ten Films of All-Time in 2002.... Full review
A valentine to Audrey Hepburn

moonspinner55 - imdb.com
Peter Bogdanovich is obviously in love with all the women in his picture. He reveres them. But Hepburn is(naturally)put a notch above the others because, after all, she's the princess Bogdanovich probably fell in love with at the movies 30... Full review

"They All Laughed" is one of those little movies I am always recommending to friends seeking something out of the ordinary. It is firmly rooted in the screwball romance traditions of the past, but seems more contemporary. Even the decidedly... Full review

Well, I had seen "They all laughed" when it came out inEurope around 1982 and had kept a vague but dear souvenir of it. I 've just seen it again on tape, almost twenty years after... Bogdanovich has a true... Full review
A delightful tale of romance and longing

This movie is perfect for all the romantics in the world. John Ritter has never been better and has the best line in the movie! "Sam" hits close to home, is lovely to look at and so much fun to... Full review

I am glad other people enjoyed this movie, cause I know it doesn't have the greatest reputation and it made no money at the box office. I thought it was terrific and there are several reasons why - Bogdanovich directs... Full review

Who are these "They"- the actors? the filmmakers? Certainly couldn't be the audience- this is among the most air-puffed productions in existence. It's the kind of movie that looks like it was a lot of fun to shoot— TOO much... Full review

here's as much eye-am-a-camera spying in They All Laughed as in the most obsessive works of Hitchcock and De Palma, but while those directors dissect the medium's inherent voyeurism, Peter Bogdanovich prefers to use cinema's eager peepers to connect viewers... ... Full Article

They All Laughed , Peter Bogdanovich's quiet romantic comedy about two Manhattan detectives (Gazzara, Ritter) following, and falling for, their subjects (Hepburn, Stratten), was unfairly overshadowed when Stratten, in 1980 (after filming had wrapped), was murdered by her estranged husband. ...
