Like most of us born in the second half of the 20th century, I discovered--and fell in love with--the classic film before the book.....There's nothing wrong with the movie, either.....It's the elegant draftsmanship of William Wallace Denslow, whose wry, black-and-white line drawings (a large number of which are on view here, courtesy of the New York Public Library) served as the basis for the indelible Technicolor characters....not only the cottage industry of 40-some sequels (most of which weren't even wri ...
