This is dark humor at its best. It is just a very depressing movie of a man that should enjoy his life but some how mess things up. When he does not get his way he does something self centered and... Full review

The movie consists of one hour and 30 minutes of Nicholas Cage acting like a impotent idiot. His character cannot handle children, divorce, his ex-wife, or his fans - and feels sorry for himself constantly. If failure, impotence, and confusion are... Full review

In "The Weather Man," Nicolas Cage, a great oddball movie star who sometimes takes enormous risks, has a good, risky part again.
Like those old classics, "Weather Man" looks beautifully bleak; the tonier sections of Chicago along the lake and the river have rarely been caught as evocatively and well.

No, what's got me confused today is my feelings about the current crop of films being helmed by visual effects artists instead of directors with any sort of actual directing experience.

Unfortunately, despite its relatively low reported budget of $22 million, "The Weather Man" feels like most other hollow, artificial Hollywood major studio fare.
The cast is populated by people who dont seem to care about the material (this applies to even Michael Caine, who appears constipated and bored).

And while at one point in Verbinski's film Cage's character takes up archery, scoring bullseye after bullseye on a snowbound practice range, in all other respects The Weather Man is woefully off target.
The wind chill factor is off the scale in Gore Verbinski's latest effort, a bleak character study that wallows in the same self-pitying funk that besets its morose, life-hating anti-hero.
