This movie is based on a book for middle school children. Quit rating the movie on what you think a movie is worth and rate it on how it compares to the book and how the kids respond to it. That's... Full review
Disappointing, to say the least

This was a movie that was "just there." I remember being doubtful about Ratatouille. After all, rats and food? Didn't sound like the best combo, but Ratatouille grabs you and pulls you in. Not Despereaux. I was waiting for it to... Full review
My six and eight-year old liked it!

My eight year old daughter, who read the book, found the film quite enjoyable. Her 6 year old brother did too. Depends on the kid, but mine showed no fear. I thought it was cute. It went by quickly--a sign of... Full review

This movie is a great thriller for younger children. It proves to them that if you just try you can accomplish anything. The movie is about a very brave mouse who gets thrown down a well because he is to brave.... Full review

This is a great movie for those kids that are 7-11 years old. I took my neice to see this movie and she loved it as it was very heart felt and warm and fuzzy type of plot. I on the otherhand was a bit board by the lack of depth. I do think for some of the younger children, the twists and turns in the plot can be a bit much for them to really stay focused on.

I was not a fan. I don't know if it was because i have grown to old to enjoy a good animated movie. This was no Shrek. The animations were great. I don't think that there has been a movie that took animation and made it look so good. The voices of the characters seem to fit so well. It is a great movie for children to see. It sends all the right ideas to children. The whole sorry factor made me say wow. I don't think I have really seen a movie were there was a legitimate sorry. I didn't mind watching it, but did get a little bit bored. I kept pulling out my phone. I think they did a great job going for the younger audience, but for anybody over 12 i think that there may be the loss of interest. Could have used a little spice into the mix to bring the older and younger audiences together. I know I will never watch this again. I will put it on for my son and go make dinner. Not interested.
scary, depressing, unengaging and all over the place

Desperaux is a poorly conceived film, or, more to the point, three poorly conceived films rolled into one. Much too ambitious/confusing. First movie, a happy kingdom is about to celebrate their wondrous Soup Day. Among the happy throngs ready to eat... Full review

I'm generally kind of a sucker for this kind of movie, but this film didn't really do it for me. Perhaps kids will enjoy this one, but as an adult I didn't find much to get into. Corny jokes, and not a lot of edge. At least the scope was pretty big and there were some pretty interesting characters along the way. However, I found the plot to be predictable. I kept asking myself when it was going to end as well. At least these kids going to see this are getting their money worth. Something was missing from this movie. Some feelings of soul, or a necessity to tell a great story. Really, for me, this was just another life lesson hidden in a mouse movie that is sure to be left along the wayside and more or less forgotten in the near future. At least the animation looked cool.
Bizarre, incomprehensible mishmash

I was looking forward to this and expected to like it, but I was crushingly disappointed. I think I could go so far as to say I hated it, which shocks me. How could one go wrong with the story of... Full review

Based on the Kate DiCamillio's Newbery Medal winning book, The Tale of Despereaux is a visually pleasing, and a bit complex, movie.....It would be a disservice to call the visuals in this movie animation.....The Tale of Despereaux entertains with the good balance of comedy, action, adventure and wonder.....Broderick as the voice of Despeareaux is as charming as Hoffman's Roscuro is redeeming..... ... But there's at least one more, for The Tale of Despereaux is an absolute delight, sweetly inventive, surprisingly dark....One tradition of fairy tales that has not been thrown overboard is the darkness, and this cute-little-mouse movie is grimmer than you might expect.....Of the many things to embrace in this charming movie, the animation stands out.....That storybook look is perfectly apt for this film, too, with its knowing nods toward fairy-tale conventions and audience expectations..... ...
