I really liked seeing the magical creature's actions when you couldn't see the creatures. I just wish that Freddie hadn't said the "h" word, but as that's the only swear word (at least to me), that's really good for a modern... Full review

The storyline is only so-so, but the special effects team must have worked overtime. You have the young actor in a duo role (played very convincingly by him) and all the magical effects, too. Good movie for the whole family to... Full review

David Strathairn makes a wonderfully eccentric great-great-uncle Spiderwick, and the scene with Joan Plowright's Great Aunt Lucinda (committed to a mental institution) is one of the film's finest moments.
Based on the series of best-selling children's books by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black, it's an enjoyable family film with a plot that is nicely realised, although it feels derivative, and I admit to being confused by the complexity of the magical characters.
