This movie has an excellent cast, including a young Dennis Hopper. John Wayne's acting is great, although he's bit old for the role (too old to have a 18 year old brother). George Kennedy performs perfectly as the hired gunman. The... Full review

The best scenes are the quiet ones
The crumbling, wintry urban wilds of Detroit are used to great effect.
The Motown soundtrack, the gray-blue winter light, and the violent abuse of big old American cars all give this story a vivid sense of place.

The one surprise in the plot comes at a gunfight when the brothers get shot up pretty bad and one dies.
The best thing this movie has to offer is the cast.
The Sons Of Katie Elder is not one of John Wayne's best movies.
Not the greatest actor
