Find your dream and follow it!
Find your dream and follow it!
Great film, very heart-warming. It gives hope to all of us that we can successfully reach are goals and dreams by working hard.
In the film, Chris Gardner (Will Smith's character) meets a guy driving a ferrari (played by up-and-coming actor Geoff Callan)...and is given some good advice... to become a stockbroker... "...you just need to be good with numbers and people." In turn, Will's character takes the advice to heart... but since he is down on his luck, it won't come easy.
On a side note, I heard that Chris Gardner really did...more

Toward the end of the lumpen The Pursuit of Happyness, director Gabriele Muccino includes a personal favorite kind of shot. Will Smith runs out into a crowded afternoon San Francisco street. It's a stationary long shot such that he enters a sea of anonymous men and women going about their business, but the eye is drawn to Smith because he's who we've been following for the past 100 and some odd minutes. It's a lovely, emotional framing device, movies working their moving-image magic with the screen awash with scores of people and yet we're emotionally invested in but one. The...more

Avg. The Pursuit of Happyness: (Andrea Guerra) A genuine rags to riches story set in 1981 San Francisco, The Pursuit of Happyness is an inspirational tale of survival in today's capitalist society. The lengthy story details the lowest moments of a father's life: a man left by his wife, abandoned by his friends, and forced to live on the streets of the city with his young son while attempting to break into a good job. Sheer luck leads to an internship at a large corporation, and in a film destined for a written epilogue of "happily ever after" proportions, the man...more

Bole To: Very poor dad becomes not-so-poor dad. STORY: Chris Gardner (Will Smith) is a poor salesman trying to make ends meet. His wife walks out on him and their son. Forced to make a living by selling bone density scanners (don't ask!), he gets a once-in-a-lifetime chance for internship in a stockbroking firm. Chris tries hard, we shed some tears and he gets the unpaid internship. REVIEW: This "based on a true story" film is certainly worth watching - twice. After watching Will Smith in this film, you'll certainly feel that he was robbed of his Oscar this time. Smith's real life...more

Will Smith is on the march toward Oscar. How can Academy voters resist Smith, with gray flecks in his hair, in a true story (well, inspired by a true story, meaning it's been tightened and prettied up) about a homeless single dad and his son. Smith plays Chris Gardner, a San Francisco salesman trying to unload bulky bone scanners (don't ask) while his depressed wife, Linda (Thandie Newton), works scut jobs. She splits for New York, leaving hubby and their five-year-old son, Christopher (cutie-patooty Jaden Smith, son of Will and Jada Pinkett), to fend for themselves. Rent is due, but Chris...more
