My God...That Damned Big Gun!
Aug 16, 2008
theowinthrop - imdb.com
Anyone acquainted with many of my reviews notices my background as a history major. Frequently I lament the fact that in pursuit of movie making that will turn into box office gold the studios (especially American ones) will ignore historical events... Full review
A Star With Big Balls.

screenman - imdb.com
Really, you know; you lot are a hard crowd to please. Yes; the stars are miscast. Yes; they're often unbelievable. And yes; the dialogue is crass and wooden. But c'mon; it's still good for a laugh. There's some wonderful filming of... Full review

Schlepp the cannon is what this film should have been entitled. It's not a totally bad film, the battle and crowd scenes are handled with great skill. Poor Frank Sinatra with a lousy Spanish accent and a wig that makes... Full review

DVD Talk
The Pride and the Passion was a cannily-packaged film by a producer who attacked the problem of making a hit movie as if it were a science: get two top stars, the hottest new European actress, a cast of thousands After this, however, Frank got into the producing business himself by maintaining a more controlling position in his movies, and for the most part made reasonably wise casting choices for himself. ... You'll pardon me if I'm a little woozy this morning; I made the mistake of staying up late last night to catch my favorite entry in Turner Classic Movie's month-long Sophia Loren film festival. ... Full Article

This splashy, implausible epic was done on a grand scale by producer-director Kramer (one of his rare non-message films), and it reeks of melodrama and unbelievable dialog. ... Full Article
