I love this movie. I remember I was seeing a play "Ragtime" and I wondered if an immigration movie/play existed that was not incredibly depressing and then I remembered "The Perez Family". It's like that excercise where a shrink tells the... Full review

If you appreciate the acting ability of Marissa Tomei, such as her great role in My Cousin Vinny, you will like this one. Everyone was superb, except that idiot that ran around in his birthday suit thruout the movie!... Full review
We didn't expect much from this rental that we had never heard of but ended up being delighted. Marisa Tomei was an absolute delight. Angelica Houston was different than we have ever seen her and looked very attractive. Very, very good... Full review

In the case of The Perez Family , the plot depends on keeping Juan and Carmela apart, but it's painfully obvious that this separation is entirely contrived. What The Perez Family clearly succeeds at is being a showcase for Marisa Tomei. ... Full Review

Also, with a runtime falling just shy of two hours, The Perez Family severely overstays its welcome. Though relatively popular with critics as a whole, I found The Perez Family to be a lengthy, unengaging bore. ... Full Review

Her vitality and warmth keep the leaden ``The Perez Family'' afloat for nearly an hour, before it ultimately sinks -- taking Tomei and a group of good actors with it. Chazz Palminteri makes a pleasant appearance here as a soft-spoken, nice-guy detective who starts a romance with Juan's wife. ... Full Review

Well-intentioned and boasting one excellent performance (by Anjelica Huston), "The Perez Family" is an uncomfortable mix of goofy comedy and serious drama, with a bit of romantic mysticism toward the end. Mistaken identities, coincidences and overly contrived incidents abound, and when the film is serious it fares pretty well. ... Full Review

And certainly, the sight of Marisa Tomei squirming and wiggle-worming her way through the early moments of "The Perez Family" provides ample evidence that realism has been left far behind. It's a weird sort of head-in-the-sand movie that manages somehow to be satisfying even while it insults your intelligence. ... Full Review
