I can only say that his debut as a movie star in "The Pallbearer" was less than impressive. But perhaps the movie is realistic. It's the first film for both young filmmakers, who seem to suffer a television-induced short attention span. ... Full Review

Mostly ``The Pallbearer'' is amusing and likable. He doesn't really have another romantic prospect, and Hershey's siren demeanor and bleached-blond looks get the better of him. Schwimmer is the ideal lovable klutz in this film. ... Full Review

Along with the ever-distinctive Kane, the film's three stars are supported by several gifted young actors. Paltrow is radiant in her fresh presence and is as adept in expressing wide-ranging emotional shifts as Schwimmer and Hershey; all three actors are playing terrifically skittish people. ... The difference is that his character is the focus of the story in The Pallbearer, and 98 minutes of his frowning, puppy dog eyes, "beat the shit out of me, I'm a geek" look is just too much! Matt Reeves even goes so far as to use the old trick of putting characters who are falling into a relationship on a roller coaster, but he adds a twist, an annoying monotone voice-over by Paltrow. ... Overall, The Pallbearer may not be as stylish or as funny as some of the other comedies of 1996 like The Birdcage or Flirting With Disaster , but it's fairly good.... While this isn't too bad with The Pallbearer , it does happen on occasion, mainly because of director Matt Reeves letting the film wallow in Tom's self-pity far too often. ... Full Review

letting David Schwimmer move from the overexposed sitcom Friends to the silver screen makes Matt Reeves' directorial debut The Pallbearer a fairly engaging film.....The Pallbearer redeems itself through Paltrow's playing Julie as awkwardly as Schwimmer does Tom, and just as endearingly.....the lack of a pat ending makes The Pallbearer a fun and somewhat surprising romantic comedy.....An eclectic soundtrack featuring Al Green, Sheryl Crow, Herbie Hancock, and Neil Young rounds out a number of scenes.... ...
