'The Pallbearer' is a somewhat inoffensive film which most people could either take or leave. The film was Schwimmer's first attempt at non-'Friends' success but it bombed terribly at the box office and as a result remains unusual and unique... Full review

Pallbearer is a story about a guy who has not gained anything in his life and his future does not look promising either. Well, he is healthy and sane but incredibly unfortunate because he has probably been a too kind... Full review

This 1996 flick was directed and co-written by Matt Reeves along with Jason Katims. A sort of serious romantic comedy. I loved Barbara Hershey in this. She never disappoints. Playing the mother of a son she lost, she turns to... Full review

I feel fairly certain that had i watched this movie on video or in the theater it certainly would have been better. Unfortunately i saw it on cable with commercials defiling all the tension built up by a dramatic scene.*****... Full review

I can only say that his debut as a movie star in "The Pallbearer" was less than impressive.
But perhaps the movie is realistic.
It's the first film for both young filmmakers, who seem to suffer a television-induced short attention span.

Mostly ``The Pallbearer'' is amusing and likable.
He doesn't really have another romantic prospect, and Hershey's siren demeanor and bleached-blond looks get the better of him.
Schwimmer is the ideal lovable klutz in this film.

Along with the ever-distinctive Kane, the film's three stars are supported by several gifted young actors.
Paltrow is radiant in her fresh presence and is as adept in expressing wide-ranging emotional shifts as Schwimmer and Hershey; all three actors are playing terrifically skittish people.

The difference is that his character is the focus of the story in The Pallbearer, and 98 minutes of his frowning, puppy dog eyes, "beat the shit out of me, I'm a geek" look is just too much!
Matt Reeves even goes so far as to use the old trick of putting characters who are falling into a relationship on a roller coaster, but he adds a twist, an annoying monotone voice-over by Paltrow.

Overall, The Pallbearer may not be as stylish or as funny as some of the other comedies of 1996 like The Birdcage or Flirting With Disaster , but it's fairly good....
While this isn't too bad with The Pallbearer , it does happen on occasion, mainly because of director Matt Reeves letting the film wallow in Tom's self-pity far too often.
