In many ways Alice Sebold's massively successful metaphysical coming-of-age drama was an unexpected choice of movie for Peter Jackson.....set against the artifice and the manipulative tendencies of the story, her admirable performance is rather swamped.....Rachel Weisz is effective as the mother hollowed out by her grief;....Mark Wahlberg stepped in to replace him, turning in a couple of powerful scenes in a mostly workmanlike performance..... ... This is an incredibly lovely film.....Lovely Bones is a touching, at times distressing film.....This is an incredibly powerful film, masterfully told and captured as only cinema in the hands of a consummate storyteller can tell it.....and you'll hate your mind for the images it could create.....The down-to-earth sections are far more engaging than the afterlife and indeed the first 20 minutes before the murder are the film's best..... ...
