This is by far one of the best battle scenes I have ever watched on the big screen.
Even if you have read the books you will love this movie.
Needless to say this movie is very action packed but it also has its slow and surprising moments.

It can play tricks with your mind, turning a few trailer-bled images and enthusiastic cast and crew quotes into an "unmissable epic masterpiece of epic proportions".
But the character design and motion-capture-aided animation are groundbreaking, with every tic and facial expression never less than disbelief-suspendingly perfect.

For example, The Two Towers lacks the light-hearted merriment of the shire in The Fellowship....you can still expect fantastic action scenes.....while they provided a nice distraction as the plot was set into motion, their reoccurrence mires the forward action..... ... Full Review

As an individual film, however, it is a lavishly produced, frequently dazzling film that nevertheless comes up as slightly disappointing simply because of what it is.
It is a beautifully produced film that isn't strong enough as a stand-alone effort to work as anything other than eye candy.
