Thankfully, if the audience has the patience, the film is good enough to warrant watching again.

A film should stand alone on its merits no matter where its text is from.....respectfully when it's as excruciatingly boring as The Lord of the Rings first instalment, The Fellowship of the Ring....Great film making can always overcome these disadvantages by transcending such boundaries and prejudices.....hate the film....A pity as The Fellowship of the Ring.... ... One interesting documentary shows how digital grading works....There is an excellent documentary called "Scale," revealing how tricks of perspective and small stunt doubles were used to make big people look small.....The features reveal lots of interesting trivia about the film.....The picture and sound quality of the DVD are first-rate..... ... The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" is jaw-dropping, breathtaking, incredibly exciting and surprisingly weighty for a fantasy.
In fact, if there is a problem with New Zealand director Peter Jackson's ambitious film, it's that this is only the first of three, since Jackson has adapted J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved trilogy with three big movies filmed back to back, and we won't get to see the second until next Christmas, and the third a year after that.

Like the best DVDs, this one teaches you a bit about the particular movie at hand and a lot more about how movies are made in general; in this case, you can see how good filmmaking sometimes means slicing out good material.
If you loved the movie and love the books -- to whatever degree -- the additional 30 minutes added to this version of "The Fellowship of the Ring" will make it alluring.

While the massive battle scenes were created largely within the realm of computers, "LOTR 1" compares favorably to grounded-in-reality epics such as "Spartacus" and "Braveheart".
