Circa 460 A.D. Mira was born in a warrior-family in Kerala, India, was well versed in martial arts and self-defense, so much so that she was recruited by the Spanish royalty and re-located to Constantinople. From there she was instructed to assist Roman Commander Aurelius to plan the escape of 12-year old Romulus Augustus Caesar from a prison in Capri after his parents had been killed by the leader of the Alliance in turmoil-stricken Rome that has seen the deaths of five emperors in five years. Mira, Aurelius, and a Priest, Ambrosinius, along with a handful of loyal soldiers were successful in the escape plan and deliver Romulus to Roman Senator Nestor. What the crew do not realize is that their task is not over yet, for Nestor is all set to betray Romulus, leaving them with no alternative but to flee to Britannia, where they will be forced to confront a seemingly invincible Vortygn, whose main aim is to obtain a powerful sword that was meant for defense and defeat, and also ensure the death of Romulus at any and all costs.

This might have made a good childrens film.
The Last Legion, a sword-and-sandal spectacle from those epic-loving De Laurentiises, invokes a lot of better movies on its circuitous trip from the Roman Empire to the Arthurian legend, but it doesnt do the one bit of borrowing that could have made this journey enjoyable.

Joining up is an exotic woman warrior played by the ravishing Aishwarya Rai, a star of Indian cinema.
Firth, Kingsley and company put in an honest day's work but they can only do so much.

A passably entertaining hodgepodge of sword-and-sandal film clichés and Arthurian romance, The Last Legion is a decidedly low-rent epic adventure that doesn't take itself too seriously.
Released in theaters without advance screenings, The Last Legion may not score any points for originality, narrative sweep, or pulse-pounding excitement, but it's a decent bargain matinee or DVD rental.

Three other actors, Sangster, McKidd and Kingsley, also make the most of their roles in this outstanding film.
Director Doug Lefler moves The Last Legion along with a spirited pace similar to his fine work on the marvelous Xena: Warrior Princess television series.

The characters were engaging, the acting believeable, and the female warrior Mira was a great role model!
The story was interesting.
I wasn't sure I would like this movie, after reading lukewarm reviews...

But it is not safe for him in rome so they fled to britannia. Before they fled the boy finds a sword 'the excalibur' in a hidden temple and takes it on his journey. In…...

No, Not Much Credibility But At Least It Was Entertaining

ccthemovieman-1@imdb | 2008-01-04

Reading the back cover of the DVD and seeing that Colin Firth and Ben Kingsley are given top billing, I expected an intelligent King Arthur story. Well, it really wasn't either, although I did find it entertaining. I must not... Read more at imdb.com

A Nutshell Review: The Last Legion
