Wonderful script -- Amitabh at his best again!
Oct 18, 2008
AishFan - imdb.com
The Last Lear is a very intelligently and well-made movie. Shakespearean dialogs and references are used cleverly. Amitabh Bachchan is mesmerizing. Once again, he defeats his toughest competition--himself. He improves noticeably with each and every film. As his character demands, Amitabh... Full review

The theme is superb. Acting by AB is superb, but we are used to that. The total effect is okay; the end is weak; the flow is intermittently disturbed because of bad time-sequencing. I would have added scenes/snippets from the stage... Full review

Big names deserved appreciation but not a Rituparno standard. Screenplay looks distracted, some characters seems unnecessary to be present along wth their stories. What is the relation of the Nurse's story to the central theme of the movie? Why it has... Full review

Bignas1234 Very poor performance, a dull movie

This is a movie like raincoat, where there are a few people dicussing the past. I didn't like raincoat so i didn't like the last lear. You expect alot more then this from a group of A-class actors, well i dont think it was the actors fault, it was the story they chose to act in. The plot is a poor show, there are many questions that are not answered and the film does have alot of holes in it. The first half proves to be a slow start into the movie and this first half will probably put off half the viewers, the second half gets a bit alright but still wouldn't excite anybody. The film is more of a hollywood movie, it is spoke full in english and slight words of hindi (i think). It is about harish (amitabh), an old man that used to be a stage actor in his youth. He was about to get the biggest role in his life, his aim, of performing king lear. Harish leant the script by heart, he interpreted the character, he researched everything about it, a devout actor to his role. But a few days before the first play a couple of people had made allegations about him and his wife, his wife had an abortion and insult had caused harish to drop his role and his dream. At present he is a retired old man, he has some sort of brain damage, needs 24hr care and wat has lead to this condiion? A couple of months bck some directors (arjun) wanted to put him in his movie, eventually harish had agreed, he is the co-star and preity as the heroin. The shooting was going well untill the climax, it needed a dangerous stunt, arjun had hired a stuntman to do harish's climax. But harish took this as an insult and pleaded that he do the stunt himself, arjun gave into his plea. Harish had one take on the climax, but in the shot you could see him grabbing the branches, ruining the climax. So another take had to happen, the scene ends and this take leaves a ??? to the film. How harish came to his condition, no one will know. Harish has supposedly got memory loss so at the end why is he reciting lines from a play? A very wierd film to be hones.
great movie

Rampal, restrained and implosive, is excellent.....Street watching is very Satyajit Rayesque (please see Charulata) and it's done with quirky humour here.....When the intense, realistic-type director (Arjun Rampal) cajoles him to return from three decades of retirement, you marvel at the actor's brilliant, theatrical rendition.....So friends, countrymen and Shakespeare, to be honest Bachchan's shout into a valley is on the embarrassing side though (check out Liza Minnelli's yell fest in Cabaret)..... ...
