it ought to, because The Island is better off dead.....To discuss the shortcomings of The Island in any detail, a few plot points unfortunately have to be disclosed.....Any writer who puzzles over the individual elements of a film for too long -....the bogus memories the clones have been imprinted with is a closely guarded secret or just the kick-off point for perfunctory action set pieces..... ... Whats most striking about The Island is how lacking the film is in creativity.
If youve seen these films, even the ones that arent classics, youve seen a better version of The Island.
Visually, Bay can come up with some impressive shots.

Inevitable dash of pretension: The doggedly unpretentious Bay doesn't delve much into The Island 's ethical quandaries, though he tells a long anecdote about a prince"I can't tell you his name"who travels with his own personal organ donor.
What went wrong: Aside from some qualms about the movie's ending, Bay insists that it flopped because Dreamworks' domestic marketing was "too smart.

THE ISLAND starts promisingly, which is a rarity for Michael Bay's opus.
The only exciting thing is the Lottery, with winners earning the right to travel to the "Island", the only unpolluted place on Earth.

And always, always, top a propulsive, eardrum-splintering action sequence with one geared to completely shear the top off the most cynical cine-head.
Try the scene where a monolithic, metallic fan blade rears and roars and buckles off its axis, demolishing and detonating everything in its tumbling path.

On the whole, The Island is one of the best action films of 2005.
Thankfully, with talented screenwriters Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Caspian Tredwell-Owen responsible for the script of The Island, it features an intelligent, well-plotted story that serves as the perfect complement to Bays high-octane action.
