Light Philosophy Delightfully Deceives as Romantic Comedy

Brian Jones - imdb.com
If one were to score this movie on a category-by-category basis, some of the categories might be laughability, cinematography, acting performance, direction, originality, script writing and social impact. Weighting each equally would lead me to give a much lower rating for... Full review

Stampsfightclub - imdb.com
After getting fired from his job Mark Bellison (Gervais) suddenly finds he can say something that isn't and uses his new power to move up in the world. I'm not going to lie to you, unless it's good for me. This... Full review

The Invention of Lying is a fairy tale that loses all credibility. I wanted to walk out but hung on hoping for something else- it never happened. Worst movie I have seen in a long long time.... Full review
A tad dry and literal, but entertaining

My wife and I decided to see Invention of Lying after reading bad reviews of Couples Retreat. I thought the movie itself was a little dry and literal, but for the most part entertaining. I was pleasantly surprised by the anti-cosmic... Full review
Weighty Atheistic Film - Light on Fun

I expected to see a lighthearted, funny movie and instead was confronted with a weighty theological movie from an atheistic viewpoint. The majority of the movie attempts to undermine the existence of God, heaven and hell and mocks religion in general.... Full review

The creator of this movie definitely had a good idea going. However, the concept did raise some questions with me. If you can't lie, do you still have to say every little thing you are thinking all the time?! It seemed... Full review

The idea of living in a world that couldn't lie sounds cool. That's where the humor was, and the movie didn't concentrate on that enough. At the end of the movie, the only message i got was that its good to... Full review

GREAT MOVIE. Very funny, hilarious, smart film. Not for everyone... seriously. Watch the previews before going to the theatre. If you like them, go see it. Not the classic Hollywood comedy movie for teenagers, by the way. I highly recommended specially... Full review

On the whole, Gervais and Robinson have put together a genuinely cute and funny movie.....However, unlike The Matrix and Children of Men, which progress on from their concept, The Invention of Lying seems to flounder in it.....The Invention of Lying is an absolutely decent film filled with hearty chuckles and a heaping handful of excellent cameos.....Co-written and directed by Ricky Gervais and Matthew Robinson, The Invention of Lying is very nearly the perfect illustration of a high-concept film..... ... And it would be a great big fib to say it was anything but one of the lamest comedies of the year.....The problem isn't just the dreadfully uneven script, but Gervais himself.....His uncertain, whiny shtick -.... ... Full Review
