A great story told using great actors. Pacino, as always, is remarkable. Not normally a Russell Crowe fan(besides of course Gladiator), but you can't help but notice his talent in this almost true story of one man's fight against big tobacco.... Full review

This film is an excellent work though tobacco companies would probably hate it. It also reflects the dirty relationship among the media, large corporations and their interests. I think Crowe's awesome performance in this film must have led to more sensation... Full review

It's strange to think The Insider was released just shy of ten years ago and was based on a 12-year-old "Vanity Fair" article and yet the tobacco industry seems just as strong as it has always been.
Several close-up shots of each character's eyeballs requires so much more from an actor than just showing worry in body movement or stammering through dialogue and Pacino nailed it.

The Insider restores faith in the historical documentary-turned into drama, because it takes such care with the context and the details of the story - as all good journalists (and movie makers) should.
Music also plays a powerful role, and the score is notable for its eclecticism and vibrancy, ranging from ambient dread, to choral to jazz to timpannic, with stylish flexibility.

Not only is "The Insider" fiercely directed, not only does it have memorable starring performances from Al Pacino and the marvelous Russell Crowe, but it has a tale to tell that is both substantial and significant.
Even if you know every detail of this much-reported situation, it can't overemphasize how effectively Mann and company have ratcheted up the tension to involve us in the immediacy of the Wigand/"60 Minutes" story, to emphasize the chaotic personal dynamics, the battle of wills, that lurked behin ...
