Intriguing Story, Disappointing Conclusion
Mar 19, 2006
Claudio Carvalho - imdb.com
The first two-thirds of "The I Inside" are fantastic: very intriguing and engaging, recalls "The Butterfly Effect", "Jacob's Ladder" and "identity", just to mention three similar movies. The situation of Simon Cable resuscitated without memory in the hospital in two different... Full review

Considering how great this movie was in the beginning I was stunned why I had never heard of it or why it only got a rating of 6.0 on IMDb. It had to have something to do with how the story... Full review

There should be another category to describe films that don't exactly fit the accepted genres of horror, supernatural or psychological thriller. I call it the "Puzzle-Box" genre. Puzzle-Box films challenge you to think and discover the answers, rather than spoon-feeding them... Full review
Starts out stellar, ends up silly.

A man (Ryan Phillipe) awakens from a coma, not remembering any events from the past two years. He doesn't recognize his evil wife (played deliciously by Piper Perabo), or his alleged mistress (the lovely but miscast Sarah Polley). He soon suspects... Full review

This is a so-so thriller with a pretty boy hero going through a lot of convoluted flashbacks ala "jacob's ladder" and "butterfly effect". I noticed a taste of "identity" in the mix too. This movie has good suspense right up until... Full review
Simon Cable (Ryan Phillippe) awakens in the hospital after an incident where, at least according to his physician, Doctor Newman (Stephen Rea), he was having convulsions and had to have his stomach pumped. His doctor is worried about him, for reasons... Full review

Here is a film that will keep you wondering just what it's all about. For those who are into such movies, you're in for a treat. The familiar theme of going back to the past to "fix" certain wrongs is offered... Full review

A technically superb thriller about a man that after an accident loses memory of the last two years. He struggles to remember what happened during that time and soon finds himself switching between the past and the present and possessing the... Full review
Like with Memento, another film dealing with memory loss, it takes some time to get used to the storytelling. The main reason is that no one explains nothing at first... clues come all along the movie up until the end. You're... Full review

But, then, ignoble endings are what this film is all about, so maybe it's fitting.....But the movie does not entirely succeed, in spite of or perhaps because of its many twists and turns.....The characters are well acted in the story but hardly well drawn..... ... Full Review

The I Inside is almost a misguided blending of these already misguided films, leading at last to a Wizard of Oz -ish was-all-a-dream resolution. In The I Inside , on the other hand, the characters are so completely boring that the audience can't help but jump ahead in the story, arriving at Simon's conclusion long before he gets there himself. ... Then again, I've always been a sucker for time travel movies.....The film starts out well, mostly....Polley in particular looks sickly....As such, you would almost be forgiven for hating the movie for such blatant trickery.....if "The I Inside" wouldn't have worked better as a trippy time travel movie.... ... Video: The movie is generously presented in something approaching a theatrical exhibition size of 2.35:1, if the movie had ever been presented in this country theatrically. While the story probably would have been more attractive with better fleshed out characters and seems rather empty without them, I doubt that even that would have helped much. ... Full Review
