Kutcher is adequate with his performance.....Outside of off-screen persona, Kutcher shows some range as actor that may get him better scripts in the future.....Aside from some good cinematic water rescue scenes, everything else seems remote..... ... Full Review

In some ways, the movie is actually rather gutsy.....the screenplay unleashes a hysterical barrage of clichés in the last act.....The Guardian begins as the sort of glossy, well-made Hollywood movie I usually like....plows forward efficiently, his only stylistic venture being a few occasional frames of slow motion before the end of a particularly vital scene.....The film is tolerably conventional.... ... The Guardian is as dull as a heroic redemption story could be.....Early snickers greeting The Guardian 's theatrical trailers were premised on the obvious, easy target.....The joke is weak, but the actual movie is even weaker.....The reason for Randall's consignment to teaching comes up in the film's second chaotic at-sea rescue mission (the first shows Ben at his best, cold-cocking a male victim for being an asshole, earning the admiration of his nearly-drowned wife and revealing Ben's seasoned efficiency) ...
