Feste was inspired by the psychological insight into family disruptions of "Ordinary People" in making her film, and one critical result of this influence was her recruitment of that picture's cinematographer, John Bailey, whose work here is superlative; the compositions are bold and strong, the lighting exquisite, making "The Greatest" a visual pleasure. ... the heightened emotions associated with grief can lead to great drama....the revealing of their individual secret pains can sometimes feel like forced plot twists rather than organic story developments.....like that Oscar-winner The Greatest uses a son's death as a springboard to expose the cracks in a family's foundation.....Her effective use of black humour goes a long way to temper the melancholy that's inherent in the material.... ... The Greatest has moments of levity that keep the movie from becoming entirely too depressing but for the most part, this is a film about love and grief.
It's a very emotional film all around that will likely have people dabbing their eyes as they watch two parents come to terms with the loss of their son.

A few weeks ago they acquired the best movie of Sundance 08.......The Greatest has been picked up by Senator Entertainment.......He didn't always get the best Bond scripts....he absolutely cannot sing, Pierce Brosnan is keen to get back to doing some spying..... ... Full Review

if she keeps giving sharp, honest performances like this one;....replete with clunky dialogue and questionable plot elements --....Simmons, recently seen in "Hotel for Dogs," is likewise genuine here.....She's blessed with good intentions, a few good ideas, and a terrific cast, but the film --....the way Feste tells this part of the story is praiseworthy..... ...
