The forbidden kingdom is an Oriental variation of Western fairy tales. It starts off with a boy in Boston who gets possession of a magic pole. He get transported to China where he has to return the pole to its rightful owner. This might sound very simplistic and trite - but additional characters seen on the boy's journey help the storyline and make it interesting. There is the drunken poet played wonderfully by Jackie Chan , the monk played by Jet Li and the girl known as Golden Sparrow. The action sequences are great as they normally are for Chinese movies - however at the same time it doesn't ever lose its sense of humor along the way. The fight between Jackie Chan and Jet Li is a classic one. Overall this movie has all the right ingredients that should appeal to the avid kung-fu fan and also the casual movie goer.
Why it's good.

The story is more appropriate for a younger audience. I think they added some obscene language and blood just to get a PG-13 rating. The only reason I continued watching this movie until the end was the fighting scenes. The action... Full review

The Forbidden Kingdom," one of the few martial arts pictures released in the U.S. this year, features both Jackie Chan and Jet Li and grossed just over $52 million domestically for Lionsgate.
