Gregg Araki tried a little too hard with "The Doom Generation," a failure of a teen road movie. It has its funny moments, and it has its dreadful, awful, ridiculous moments as well, which are the main cause of my less-than-admirable... Full review

What do you get when you combine a low budget, bad acting, and a REALLY bad script? You get this awful movie. At one hour and 23 minutes, it's about 80 minutes too long. It was PAINFULL to watch this crap.... Full review

The Doom Generation is an operatic study in depravity. A cheap NBK for alienated teenies in the vast wasteland of the mid nineties. One cannot deny its brazen and silly displays of comedic violence and taboo subject matter. I admire Gregg... Full review

With opening dialogue like "I feel like a gerbil stuck in Richard Gere's butt-hole" -or something- it's easy to say that this is not a quality film. In fact,it's dreadful garbage,an ultra-cheap,teenie Natural Born Killers with the same '666' symbolism and... Full review

Asian-American director Gregg Araki's first "heterosexual movie" (as the opening credits declare) is a lurid, drug-fueled romp about teen angst, sex, voyeurism, murder, consumerism and homophobia. It's also a lot of fun, in an ironically kitsch, acquired-taste sort of way.At... Full review

The film follows three loathsome, degenerate teenagers as they shotgun-blast their way across a wasteland of motels and convenience stores.
Araki and his collaborators undoubtedly had some intention of combining the crude techniques of exploitation movies and "drive-in trash" to fashion a commentary on the depravity of modern America.

THE DOOM GENERATION (Unrated) Contains a plurality of disgusting things, from body functional references to violence.
Doom Generation" is an 85-minute, darkly comic assault on the audience, laden with satirically over-the-top (and below-the-belt) violence, unending profanity and enough references to the posterior to fill a proctologic encyclopedia.

They haven't a thought in their heads, but the rootless teens who idle through road-movie territory in The Doom Generation always have an elaborately obscene remark at the ready.
By the time these three get around to sharing a mattress - they're energized by the trail of dead clerks and cashiers they leave in their vacuous wake - it's clear there's actually one person talking, and that's openly gay writer-director-editor Gregg Araki.
