It is the remake of the original film of 1951. This movie “The day the earth stood still (2008)”is a science fictional film directed by Scott Derrickson and the starring is carried out by Keanu Reeves as Klaatu. It is an environmental friendly movie which updates the theme of cold war and reveals the topics on humankind's environmental damage to the planet. The movie was released on 12 December 2008 in both theaters as well as on IMAX screen. The movie seems to obtain bad response from the audience. The opening scene of the movie is accompanied by the appearance of the Alien races in mankind form (Klaatu) along with one giant robot from an unknown sphere. The same Klaatu tries to destroy every element created by humans which leads to distortion of Earth environment in which he gets hurt in many circumstances. In the end Klaatu is promised by Helen and Jacob that humans can change their ways for saving Earth and on their way to sphere Klaatu sacrifice his life, saving humanity at the price of disabling earth technology. Overall the movie illustrated a negative result on its release, and the reason for it is its incoherent story, though it provided digital sound and classic graphic effects.

"The Day the Earth Stood Still" is a stunningly inept remake of the 1950's classic of the same name. It's one of those big-budget films so unfathomably dull and inane, you wonder how it ever got made. Whereas the original warned... Full review

Ouch! $11 times 2 wasted on IMAX. There are so many plot holes in this film I don't know where to begin. 1. A UFO is rushing towards NYC. Prediction is a cataclysmic collision. They assemble a team of scientists and... Full review

A schizophrenic film. Scott Derrickson has done his best to make a run of the mill CGI-enhanced sci-fi thriller but has found himself thwarted by the remarkable screen presence of Keanu Reeves and the ghost of Bernard Herrmann. Reeves was the... Full review

The 2008 version starts off somewhat promising. Unlike the original, there is a build-up to the first encounter with Klaatu, which is sort of effective in eliciting both wonder and fear. It's reminiscent of Close Encounters of the Third Kind and... Full review

I saw the movie and it is not bad at all. My understanding and this is what I felt: keep the 50th's not to far away from us. Do you really thing that we have really changed that much, since then? Beside the technology? If we are capable of great things we are also capable of the lowest things. We are still short minded as we use to be and will always be like this...because we are human and humanity always repeat itself. We will be erase one day, either from an alien, a meteor or by ourselves, but earth will still be there and survive to us.
