Bottom line : Slow, stereotypical and only sporadically funny, "The Break-Up" doesn't allow for much romantic chemistry between Vaughn and Aniston, who spend the whole movie sniping at each other. Skip it : "The Break-Up" isn't sure of the reasons Brooke and Gary can't work things out, and it fails to show how they made it as far as they did in the first place. ... Full Review

Yes, this is a relationship doomed from the start, which is why 90% of the film is spent chronicling the couple's bitter arguments and split. She finds herself charmed by a baseball tragic, Gary Grobowski (Vince Vaughan), whose idea of seductive behaviour is to speak with a mouth stuffed full of hot dog. ... Full Review

It's impressive that the astute script was written by two men, Jay Lavender and Jeremy Garelick, because they're created an amazingly empatheic role for Aniston who tears into it as if it were a raw slab of meat. Her performance here is auspiciou, as she registers disappointment and frustration in counterpoint to Vaughn's glib, unfeeling self-entitlement. ... Full Review
