The Bachelor isn't the funniest movie I've seen, and at times it's a little too sappy for my taste.
Overall, it was an enjoyable movie.
However, The Bachelor had some very laughable scenes, and the actors are terrific.

The Bachelor" resembles a direct-to-video movie at almost every ill-advised turn because of its overall air of moronic silliness.
That is, except for the vignette involving Brooke Shields, who gives the most finely tuned comedic performance in the whole film, as the money-grubbing, chain-smoking Buckley.

And we're a bit uneasy at the way the movie makes fun of them.
For the first 60 seconds or so, "The Bachelor" comports itself like a movie with quirky yet real potential.
When they are on screen, the movie feels like a bad TV sitcom.

In fact, if not for some scene-stealing supporting turns by Hal Holbrook, Ed Asner, Peter Ustinov and others, the film might have been awful.
And the veterans seem to be having a good time, especially Holbrook, who's wonderfully eccentric.

As you might have guessed, New Lines 16:9 enhanced version of THE BACHELOR is absolutely spectacular looking.

Whatever the excuse, though, "The Bachelor" doesn't generate enough laughs or sighs to hold together, and the only thing more disappointing than a truly awful film is a merely weak one that has some really fun moments.
The Bachelor," despite its predictable love-or-lucre dilemma, is not without its moments and, when it surrenders to the absurd Keaton-esque spirit that inspires it, can actually be very near delightful.

Too bad The Bachelor has only trace elements of it.....Director Gary Sinyor , who helmed the far funnier British sleeper Leon the Pig Farmer , manages to make the film endearing in a plastic, superficial sort of way.....Those in the mood for romantic comedy could do worse than The Bachelor ..... ... I didn't mind The Bachelor up to this point; it was pretty clear where they were heading, and though Zellweger was miscast (there's one actress who I'll be avoiding in the future; there was nothing about her, absolutely nothing, that didn't irritate me in one way or another), I kinda liked Shelton as Anne's sister Natalie, and I loved their horny parents [reminds me of a couple I know, married for years and years and still can't take our hands off each other. ... The movie looks and sounds good -....That's the basic premise of The Bachelor , the fluffy, implausible Chris O'Donnell / Renee Zellweger romantic comedy now out on DVD.....he can keep his business running, Jimmie proposes unsuccessfully to a bevy of ex-girlfriends, including Mariah Carey and a very funny Brooke Shields .....Although it's got plenty of saccharine romance, The Bachelor (inspired by Buster Keaton 's classic Seven Chances ) doesn't offer much in the way of a believable plot, humor, or compelli ...
