Nevertheless, The Amityville Horror is a good scary movie....horror fans the payoff is the grisly scenes uncovered through a wall in the basement.....This chilling remake of the 1979 film The Amityville Horror is by far a better film than the original, with plenty to terrify lovers of the horror genre.....The scene when the pot-smoking baby-sitter is locked in the closet is one of the film's highlights, starting so innocently....Director Andrew Douglas has a good feel for the subject matter.... ... The film itself spawned a number of sequels and a 2005 remake and while the film is hardly scary, it does have its creepy moments and a campy charm that makes "The Amityville Horror" worth sitting down with.
Neither actor puts forth a performance that is anything close to be award worthy, but the manner in which they go about their business adds to the campy nature of "The Amityville Horror.

The picture looks slick enough and there are a couple of mightily impressive gore scenes here and there but really, the suspense in the film is pretty much non-existent.
The biggest problem with the film is the acting.

My dad fast fowarded through that scene) I enjoyed watching my brother, and my sister, freak out and cry while me and my cousin sat on my cousin's bed and watch the boring movie.
I think it is not appropriate for kids my age unless it is daytime, because all four of us got nightmares (mostly because of the scene where the mom sees those red eyes in the dark) If you're in for a scare, watch the remake.

Very strong acting from Reynolds and Melissa George has a perfect hiney...
Katherine has 3 kids from a previous marriage that George promises to love and protect as if they were his very own.
You can laugh I did (see above).

Ok, I love any good horror story, and I had read a lot on Amityville before the remake, so when they announced the remake I vowed to see it.
The film itself isn't too bad really.

Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George are nicely cast as George and Kathy Lutz, terrorised by a demonic presence in their new home.
Stuart Rosenberg directed the original 1979 film from Sandor Stern's screenplay based on Jay Anson's book, the source material for this remake, but Scott Kosar has written a tauter script and Andrew Douglas delivers a horror film worthy of the post-Ringu genre.

Where the new "Amityville Horror" mostly fails is simply telling the written story, or, for that matter, telling the truth.
Granted, the atmosphere and feel of the film make a good effort, but one cannot rely on how things look alone in order to tell a frightening story.
