This movie makes no sense- at least, not in the linear, neat, tidy, world of adulthood. But, it captures the messy, gritty, disjointed, weird, raw, non-linear, funky, wild, whimsical, internally inconsistent world of true childhood fantasy better than any film... Full review

Let's see. I went to see Disney's "The Shaggy Dog" with a friend and her grandkids. It was dull, stupid, predictable, and unimaginative, and the characters were utterly forgettable, every single one, including the dog. Then the next night I watched... Full review

I recall that film, and without any pleasure I might add, because while Rodriguez has left that franchise behind, he has not, apparently, lost his fascination for 3-D. There is much more of it in ADVENTURES than in GAME OVER, but it's a gimmick that only adds to the general irritation inspired by the film, what with all the fumbling with the elastic that secures the 3-D glasses and, of, course, the way the slide around in one's lap between prompts to put them back on. ... THE ADVENTURES OF SHARKBOY AND LAVAGIRL IN 3-D may not be Oscar-worthy, but it will definitely please its target audience of elementary-school kids.
The movie focuses on shy ten-year-old Max (Cayden Boyd), who loses himself in an elaborate fantasy world to escape the classmates who bully him and the constant bickering of his parents (David Arquette and Kristin Davis).

The result is a fantastic journey that is built to capture and inspire young minds without boring them to death.

The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D" is bizarre and (if you can endure the glasses) visually interesting enough, and the script refreshingly free enough ("Wizard of Oz" cribbing aside) of pop culture references and stock characters, that on the whole it feels genuine.
