To simply praise "The Abduction Club" for being charming, romantic, witty, exciting and an all-around spectacular blast of fun is to overlook the fact....one cannot help but see them all soaring to the ranks of the A-list purely on the strength of this one sensational picture.....For decades, the Abduction Club has functioned thusly, succeeding often enough to have earned the scorn of the aristocracy.....many had thought to be as extinct as the spirited "Golden Age" actors capable of pulling it off..... ... But by the time it peters out into formulaic nonsense, the central miscasting and anachronistic dialogue have grown irritating and the only thing abducted is 90 minutes of your precious time.
A botched kidnap then sends highwaymen Byrne and Strang (Daniel Lapaine, Matthew Rhys) on the run with two feisty rich sisters (Alice Evans, Sophia Myles), pursued byeminently boo-able villains.

To sum up, then, The Abduction Club is an undeniably silly, but nonetheless enjoyable slice of romantic nonsense that's definitely worth seeing for Sophia Myles' performance.
That's not far off the general feel of the film, though the subject matter is different and it opts to drop the modern music and post-modern dialogue, instead choosing to play it straight.

So says one of the members of the Abduction Club, a group of rambunctious, disinherited 17th-century Irish noblemen who kidnap wealthy lasses in order to charm them into saying I do.
Two such romantic hooligans are Byrne (Daniel Lapaine) and Strang (Matthew Rhys), who abduct the beautiful and very feisty Kennedy sisters (Sophia Myles, Alice Evans), only to discover that the girls arent about to give away their fortunes to any old handsome chappie.
