Very intelligent script and story

I would give this movie a lower rating if I weren't open to cerebral, NYC upper-class intellectual tales. I think the lower ratings may be given by some reviewers who are more attracted to a farcical coming-of-age movie like Risky... Full review

Just caught this on IFC. Poster mwyarbrough thinks those who have a problem with "Tadpole" don't get it: "Because he is very intelligent, Oscar makes the classic adolescent mistake of overestimating his own maturity..." The problem with this assessment is... Full review

I'm perplexed by the number of people who seem to miss the crucial element of this film: that Oscar is not as mature as he thinks he is. His "love" for Eve doesn't feel real to the viewer because it's... Full review
I don't understand the attacks that have been made on this film - not just on this site, but elsewhere on the web. There are a few holes in the script, and the whole things is less substantial than a soap... Full review

I've read some other comments about the poor film quality/picture quality of this low-budget, quickly done fairly short (77 minutes) film. Frankly, I'd rather watch Tadpole ten times than sit through the horribly boring technically beautiful special effects of either... Full review

To sum up, Tadpole is an enjoyable, frequently hilarious comedy and theres enough here to warrant the eager anticipation of Winicks next project. As for Stanford, hes excellent in his debut (despite playing a good six years younger than his age) and his performances here and in X-Men 2 suggest imminent Next Big Thing status. ... Full Review

The film might have been more satisfying....There's not much to criticize one way or another about this 2002 independent movie, "Tadpole....Fortunately, the film has no glaring defects (except in its audiovisual execution) to speak of.....by the supporting players like John Ritter as Oscar's befuddled, college professor dad and Robert Iler as Oscar's best friend, Charlie, is uniformly excellent..... ... There, however, the films' similarities end, Waters going mainly for satire while director Gary Winick's "Tadpole" remains firmly grounded in a more realistic slice of life. The film might have been more satisfying if it had, in fact, been fleshed out a little more instead of going for easy smiles. ... Full Review
