But Yogesh's bride-hunt never gets tedious, thanks to the unadorned interiors of the simple plot.....Some of the music in the otherwise-interesting mix of acoustics and sporadic melody by debutant Sohail Sen is also a burden on the narrative.....too broadly parochial to match the narrative's mellow mood -.... ... There is a languidness to the movie, echoing the lovely lyrics of one of its best songs, 'yun hi chala chal rahi, jeevan gaadi hai, samay pahiya.. The director puts the 'gaon' back on the map, and this is a brave choice: it was easier to go rural, and stay rural in Lagaan . ... Full Review

There's an enchanting intimacy to Swades that invites you in without trying.....chooses to stay supine at a time when cinema has become hysterically over-the-top.....carried forward through the endearing `Ek tara` song, you realize....one wonders how far cinematographer Mahesh Aney is to blame for this.....It avoids posh postures and chic gestures of the `aa-ab-laut-chalen NRI-returned` cinema..... ... The songs actually come as a welcome relief from the boring narrative. Mohan Bhargava (Shah Rukh), a NASA scientist develops guilt pangs suddenly for neglecting his childhood nanny, Kaveri Amma (Kishori Ballal), of 12 years. ... Full Review

If cinema and reality are two different things, Swades is bad cinema.....The film brilliantly uses the contrast between the highly developed world of NASA....Cinema is not just about entertainment..... ... Full Review
