I am a movie enthusiast, not easily impressed. Nonetheless, SUSPICION is my absolute favorite cinematic work. It is time transcendent, qiunessential entertainment. Hitchcock and Grant blissfully seduce their audience with long-lost subtlties of the theater. What ITS A WONDERFUL LIFE is... Full review

Suspicion," from 1941, is just such an Alfred Hitchcock picture, beautiful people in a beautiful setting suddenly and quite alarmingly becoming malign and menacing.
The advantage is to have Hitchcock at his wry best; the liability is that the shift from purely romantic humor to serious thriller is quite a big leap, gradual or not, to go down easily with an audience.

The first half mixes pure melodrama with playful (but sometimes ill-placed) comedic vignettes; Joan Fontaine's performance feels like a lighter version of the spindly heroine in " Rebecca ," and Cary Grant largely maintains his naughty but handsome persona so carefully refined in prior comedies. ... For the most part, Suspicion is an entertaining comedy mixed with an absorbing drama, well-developed by Hitchcock in keeping you guessing what is the true nature beneath Johnnie's odd behavior.
As much as Hitch and Cary impress, it's really Fontaine that makes this movie ultimately enjoyable, and quite deservedly, she won an Academy Award for her performance.

His interactions with Lina are the best scenes in the film not involving a glowing glass of milk (the only moment in the film that feels uniquely Hitchcock).
