The terrific scenes between Roberts and Sarandon and the tender understanding of Harris (who has a very fine proposal scene), along with those great Motown songs on the soundtrack, more than make up for the film's weaknesses. Surprisingly, Roberts, who is not as well known for her acting talent, actually out duels the formidable Sarandon in this head-to-head duel. ... Full Review

For all the star power of its lead actors, the good-natured friendliness of its concept and some finely nuanced details about the trauma of fractured-family life in the '90s, "Stepmom," at its core, is a movie with a message or two to deliver.
