Indeed, there's practically nothing fresh about Spaceballs .....because they tended to be more commercially successful than his other films....But Spaceballs lacks the machine-gun fire, joke machine-like pace of Blazing Saddles or other non-Brooks hits like Airplane....does it have the appealing characters and strong story that buttressed Young Frankenstein .....though the optical effects betray a higher level of grain..... ... While Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga and Joan Rivers (as the C-3PO look alike Dot Matrix) have their moments, this film will always rest on the humorous laurels of Rick Moranis and John Candy to make it great.....Unfortunately, Spaceballs seems to grow dimmer as opposed to brighter as time marches on -....Spaceballs is hilarious, but it requires a bit of time between each watch.....If you ask someone what their favorite Sci-fi spoof movie is, chances are Spaceballs will be mentioned.....It's not even Mel Brook ... Brooks and one of the original film's co-writers, Thomas Meehan, will write an hour-long pilot to launch the show next year, with 13 half-hour shows also planned. It's not known whether the likes of Rick Moranis (Dark Helmet) and Bill Pullman (Lone Starr) will return to lend their tonsils to the 'toon, though Brooks himself will be providing voice duties for his two original roles, President Skroob and Yoda-alike mystic Yoghurt. ... While it may not be considered his greatest film, you have to admit there's something inside of you that craves Mel Brooks' Spaceballs . C'mon, you've got John Candy , Bill Pullman and Rick Moranis in their prime ... ... Full Review

A great cast is another highlight, especially considering Bill Pullman had only one film credit to his name before Spaceballs .....There's not many films that successfully combine phallic light saber gags with cheap shots at shameless movie merchandising....it's an entertaining satire with tons of memorable scenes, a few groan-inducing ones and, most importantly, high replay value.....there's a curious lack of deleted scenes (word has it that there's roughly an hours' worth of unused footage out there)..... ...
