becoming an effective, authentic feeling film that puts you squarely in Colonial-era England.....Solomon Kane isn't a nice guy.....The film plays out as a pretty standard origin story with all the bleak accoutrements you'd expect in a post-DARK KNIGHT world.....Well, that's because Sommers was ripping off some of the best elements of Solomon Kane for his own asstastic, juvenile, Universal monster fanfic opus.....SOLOMON KANE is an incredibly cool return to form for modern sub-studio level financing fantasy. ... it is much better than most huge movies.....There have been rumors of a Solomon Kane film for ages.....it was a very strong film from beginning to end....The film is beautiful to look at.....Better because they're characters you can be invested in..... ... Full Review

As a new, medium-budget hack-and-slash film with no stars, it's a shame....The film's complete absence of irony, its lack of a need to "put a fresh spin" on an old genre is refreshing and a pure pleasure.....A pure, unsophisticated (in the best, most honest way) adventure film not designed to appeal to multiple demographics, it doesn't get goofy to skew young....the filmmakers' reliance on physical props in incredibly detailed sets is another nostalgic pleasure..... ...
