This film just (and I mean like 45 minutes ago), had it's North American Premier at the Toronto International Film Festival. This work was amazing. Set in 17th Century England, it had the feel of the Dark Knight, and Star Wars.... Full review

SOLOMON KANE was really not what I expected. It's far, far better than I could have hoped. As it stands, its pretty unique in the sword and sorcery movies simply because it has proper drama, great performances and some nasty intense... Full review

Minor Spoiler Alert! If Peter Jackson deemed it a good idea to remake Michael Reeves classic WITCHFINDER GENERAL, the result might look an awful lot like SOLOMON KANE. Based on Robert E Howard's 17th Century Puritan pulp fiction character, SOLOMON KANE... Full review

becoming an effective, authentic feeling film that puts you squarely in Colonial-era England.....Solomon Kane isn't a nice guy.....The film plays out as a pretty standard origin story with all the bleak accoutrements you'd expect in a post-DARK KNIGHT world.....Well, that's because Sommers was ripping off some of the best elements of Solomon Kane for his own asstastic, juvenile, Universal monster fanfic opus.....SOLOMON KANE is an incredibly cool return to form for modern sub-studio level financing fantasy. ... Posted by: ico on August7,2008 at 23:55:19 I bet they're going to make this into a really stupid action movie. I mean it's great to have lofty ideas on where this movie should go and what tone it should set, but lets be honest, in 1890 when the story was first published it didn't have the critical acclaim it does today. ... As a new, medium-budget hack-and-slash film with no stars, it's a shame....The film's complete absence of irony, its lack of a need to "put a fresh spin" on an old genre is refreshing and a pure pleasure.....A pure, unsophisticated (in the best, most honest way) adventure film not designed to appeal to multiple demographics, it doesn't get goofy to skew young....the filmmakers' reliance on physical props in incredibly detailed sets is another nostalgic pleasure..... ...
