Smarter Than Michael Moore, Sexier Than Sandra Dee!

Dan1863Sickles - imdb.com
When I went to this movie, I wondered whether it would be as funny as SPINAL TAP or as insightful as FAHRENHEIT 9/11. What really shocked me was that it was more exciting than both movies. The Dixie Chicks come... Full review

I saw the film today, and it was every bit as good as I hoped it would be. Contrary to what some may think, the film is not about the Chicks whining about losing their freedom of speech. The primary... Full review

Here's a perfect example of why you have to take the IMDb rating system with a grain of salt -- many of the people who hate the Dixie Chicks because they made an anti-Bush comment will give a rating of... Full review

I saw a screening of this film and loved it! While I'm not a huge fan of the band, I applaud their convictions and exercising their right to free speech. The footage of angry country fans just further emphasized the... Full review

I also saw this movie at TIFF and thought it one of the highlights of the festival. Like the music that envelopes it, this film was worth the wait. The film shows the band as professional, very talented, and still... Full review

A great companion film to "The US vs. John Lennon," which I had seen a few days previously at the Toronto Film Festival, Dixie Chicks: Shut Up and Sing looks back at the controversy that occurred when Natalie Maines told,... Full review

We would have happily paid to see this excellent film in the theatre but ended up seeing it at home, which was, in the end, a blessing. If, however, your family members are fans of good music, can stand some cussing and are even remotely interested in civil liberties, I highly suggest renting and watching Shut Up and Sing . ... Although former fans will probably still be holding a grudge, the film is enjoyable. I would also have liked to have heard the bands reaction to the film after time to reflect on the events and the ability to see the footage put together. ... Full Review

As the film ends, their anti-war stance has become popular among the U.S. population (if not country radio listeners per se), and the group remains committed to their own free speech, not ready to make nice. But they shouldnt have their feelings hurt, Maines turns to the documentary camera and announces to the president, Youre a dumb fuck. ... Full Review

Music fared nicely. Clearly she fell from grace kicking and screaming, and the movie makes her seem superficial. The tones appeared fairly lackluster and drab throughout the flick. Effects played a minor role and lacked much presence ... Full Review

Politics aside, "Shut Up & Sing" succeeds as a rousing concert and behind-the-scenes film, an expose of country radio practices, and a personal look into the lives of the three mothers whom Sony considers cash cows. Intimate moments backstage and in their homes record their defiance, tears and strong bond of sisterhood that transcends the fact that Emily Robison and Martie Maguire actually are sisters. ...
