What distinguishes Shark Tale is the combination of all the elements that drive a film to entertainment success: the script is fast, clever, witty and has something to say.
The vocal performances are perfectly pitched for dramatic as well as comedic effect, the animation is superb and the music is contemporary, urban and a major contributor to the overall flow.

First, Shark Tale tried too hard to be funny, cute, ingenious and endearing, while Finding Nemo simply was.
Michael Imperioli, Vincent Pastore, Martin Scorsese, Ziggy Marley and Doug E. Doug were funny enough, while Renée Zellweger was chipper and Angelina Jolie was unnecessarily sultry.

I feel that if the topic of lying is discussed and the issue is brought up as a family and kids understand that lying is in fact bad, that the movie can just be a fun movie and nothing else.
I feel that this movie has all the right moves when it comes to a fun cartoon for kids; the comedic content was good.

It doesn't help that the movie favors some really ugly art.
If I dissect it, the movie probably won't fare very well.
Computer animation invariably looks great on DVD, and Shark Tale was another stellar transfer.
The animation is passable at best.

As far as fishy stories go, this one makes a pretty weak movie chowder.
The main thing it has going for it is the animation, which is beautiful in places, especially Oscar and femme-fatale Lola (voice by Angelina Jolie), a beautiful angel fish.
